Easy Dial® Indoor Sprinkler Timer/Controller

Low Battery Discrepancy

Try this solution

Press the reset button on the timer

The affected timer firmware is version 521.

  1. Set the timer dial to “HOW OFTEN”

  2. Press and hold the “+” and “-“ button at the same time, continue to hold.

  3. Press the reset button with a pen or similar.

  4. Continue to hold the “+” and “-“ button as the timer boots up.

  5. The timer will flash the version. It will look like “U521” on the screen. It will flash the version, then show “1” and hold the “1” until reset. If the end-user did not see the version and only sees a “1”, they will need to press the reset button and try again.

  6. The end-user can exit this firmware version screen by pressing the reset button again.

There is a bug in the firmware of this timer. When the timer loses power, i.e. during a battery change, it retains the next start time only. No other settings are retained, including the “how long” portion of the code, which is why the timer enters into a continual watering state. The customer must meet a specific set of criteria to enter this state. The criteria is as follows:

  1. The customer removes the battery tray to change the batteries while the timer is in the AUTO dial position.

  2. The customer allows the timer screen to fade to blank.

  3. The customer returns to the timer with a new set of batteries within 2-3 minutes of the screen going blank.

  4. Upon boot up, the clock time defaults back to 1:00 PM and the customer does not reset the SET CLOCK time and leaves it at the default time.

Simply pressing the reset button on the timer will fix the issue, unless they were to recreate the issue again.

We are not expecting this to be common as the steps required to make the issue happen is specific.
